Swarna Dweep can be translated from ancient Sanksrit language to mean Precious Stones and Pearls from the Islands. Swarnadip later became the Sanksrit name for Sri Lanka. The precious stone traders were unable to pronounce the words Swarna Dweep or Swarnadip instead called Sri Lanka – Serendip – an early form of the word Serendipity –
